4 Ways to Use a Halloween Math Center Activity in Kindergarten

Hey, hey! Can we cue the pumpkins, candy and Halloween fun now or is it still too early? ๐ŸŽƒ I know, youโ€™re probably thinking: โ€œGIRL, you are way too excited! Halloween is a crazy time.โ€ While I totally agree with you, I must also say, itโ€™s such a fun time for our kiddos!

Want a quick and easy math center for Halloween time? I got you! This was one of my favorite activities to send home for my Kindergarten class because it kept the little ones entertained, challenged and practicing their rote and skip counting.

Be sure to encourage the parents to set the mood first and get some excitement started in their home.

  1. Play your favorite Halloween songs on a streaming device or CD in their computer.

  2. Diffuse some fun and woodsy essential oils for a complete sensory experience.

  3. Hang some paper jack-o-lanterns and skeletons from the ceiling.

  4. Laminate the pieces of your center activity and place them in a black beans sensory bin with fine motor tools.

  5. Model the activity and have a fun-filled time!

Key components of a well-designed Halloween math center activity include the following:

* Directions and use ideas

* Engaging steps

* Hands-on components +

* Extension opportunities

How can you make the most out of this center activity?

  1. Make a sensory bin activity with it

  2. Do these counting puzzles in whole group, small group or independent work

  3. Assign it for homework

  4. Use it during your intervention block

  5. Use it as an assessment for counting by 1s, 5s and 10s
